Frequently asked questions
What are the meeting details?
Time: 2:00 pm on the first day of the expedition
From there, group transportation is provided to La Ventana.
Guests should plan to arrive the day before, or the same day very early.
Please note that San José del Cabo Airport (SJD) is approximately 45 minutes from the marina.
We can also arrange pickup in La Paz at a designated point along the route.
What is this experience?
A multi-day, land-based expedition focused on exploring the open ocean in search of mobula rays and cetaceans in La Ventana, one of the most active marine ecosystems in Baja.
Each day, we head out on ocean safaris guided by experienced captains and marine professionals, adapting to conditions in real time.
Is this a liveaboard?
No — this is a land-based expedition.
We stay in La Ventana in a beautiful desert accommodation and head out to the ocean each day.
Boat departures are done directly from the beach, maximizing time in the water.
What animals can we see?
The main highlight is the mobula ray aggregation, where thousands of rays can gather in massive groups.
You may also encounter dolphins, whales, sea lions, turtles, and occasionally sharks or other cetaceans.
Each day is different, and encounters depend on ocean conditions.
Is it guaranteed that we will see mobulas or specific animals?
How many people are in the group?
What should I bring?
Will we get in the water with the animals?
Yes, when conditions are safe and respectful for the animals, we enter the water for in-water encounters.
All decisions are based on animal behavior, safety, and ethical guidelines.
Can we see orcas and swim with them?
Orcas can be seen in Baja, but sightings are never guaranteed.
When we encounter them, any in-water interaction depends entirely on their behavior. We only consider entering the water when animals are calm, curious or feeding and undisturbed. If they are hunting, or showing signs of stress, we keep our distance.
In Baja, orcas are often linked to seasonal food sources like mobula rays, whales, dolphins, sharks and turtles, which is why sightings are unpredictable.
Every encounter happens on their terms, so we recommend keeping an open heart and bringing good energy to maximize your chances!
What certifications do your guides have?
All of our guides are certified in CPR and First Aid, and hold the official NOM-09 federal certification required to operate as professional wildlife and marine tourism guides in Mexico.
Beyond certifications, our team is highly experienced in in-water safety, wildlife behavior, and responsible encounter practices.
Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?
How physically demanding is this experience?
This is an active expedition. You should be comfortable:
- Swimming in open ocean conditions
- Entering and exiting the boat
- Spending multiple days on the water
- Previous snorkeling experience is required.
Will I get seasick?
We spend multiple days in the open ocean, and conditions can vary.
If you’re prone to seasickness, we strongly recommend taking medication beforehand.
Can I join solo?
Yes! Many of our guests join solo.
These expeditions are a great way to meet like-minded people, and it’s very common to form strong connections throughout the trip.
